WORLD THEATER DAY INITIATED
World Theatre Day is an annual event celebrated on March 27th that was initiated by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) in 1961.
The purpose of World Theatre Day is to raise awareness of the value and importance of theatre and to promote international exchange of ideas, knowledge, and appreciation of theatre arts.
Each year, the ITI selects an outstanding theatre figure to write a message to the world on the occasion of World Theatre Day.
The message is then translated into more than 50 languages and read at theatre events around the world.
World Theatre Day is celebrated by theatre companies and organizations around the world with various events, such as performances, workshops, lectures, and exhibitions.
The day also provides an opportunity for theatre practitioners to reflect on their art, discuss current issues facing the industry, and engage with audiences and communities.
