Bail Granted to AAP’s Sanjay Singh in Delhi Excise Policy Case

Background and Arrest: Sanjay Singh, a prominent figure within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), found himself embroiled in the Delhi excise policy scam case and was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on October 4 of the previous year.

Supreme Court Intervention: On April 2, the Supreme Court heard Sanjay Singh’s plea challenging his arrest and remand in the money laundering case. Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Dipankar Datta, and P.B. Varale presided over the bench. During the hearing, the court noted Singh’s six-month incarceration and instructed the ED’s counsel to assess whether further custody was necessary. Eventually, the ED conveyed its lack of objection to granting bail to the AAP leader.

Bail Granted: In response to the Supreme Court’s deliberation, the apex court granted bail to Sanjay Singh, thereby ending his prolonged detention.

Reaction and Support: AAP leader Atishi welcomed the decision, expressing solidarity with Sanjay Singh. She shared the news on social media with the statement “Satyameva Jayate” (truth alone triumphs).

Legal Proceedings: Prior to the Supreme Court’s intervention, Sanjay Singh had approached the high court seeking bail, citing his extended custody period and the absence of direct involvement in the primary offense. The ED, however, opposed his bail plea, asserting his complicity in various facets of the alleged crime related to the Delhi liquor scam of 2021-22.

Sanjay Singh’s release on bail marked a significant development in the ongoing legal battle surrounding the Delhi excise policy case, as he continues to assert his innocence in the face of the allegations leveled against him.
